Diver Safety Event

This marked our first major outreach event in Red Bay, Andros! A settlement rich in history and Bahamian culture, Red Bay is the only settlement on the west side of Andros and is known for its traditional subsistence lifestyle.

Recognizing the community’s remote location and the abundance of marine life in the surrounding waters, Annie and Sarontaa set out with several important missions: to deliver an educational presentation on sharks and sawfish, demonstrate essential first aid techniques, and bring the community together over a shared dinner.

Through these activities, we hoped to leave a lasting impact by raising awareness of the vital roles sharks and sawfish play in our marine ecosystems, highlighting the importance of knowing how to use a tourniquet in a life-threatening bleeding emergency, and introducing more people to the work we do at Saving the Blue.

Education and community outreach are at the heart of conservation. By sharing knowledge, encouraging curiosity, and building connections, we can empower communities to protect the incredible marine life around them.
