Sponsorship - Student

Each year, Saving the Blue sponsors a number of students to join our research expeditions, providing valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to develop practical skills in marine science and conservation. In addition to supporting students, we are proud to employ local boat captains, research assistants, and other community members, helping to create opportunities for local involvement in marine research and conservation.

Featured below is Sonee, a marine science student from the University of The Bahamas, who joined us for a week-long research expedition. During her time with us, Sonee gained invaluable field experience, assisting with equipment deployment and retrieval, data collection and entry, as well as shark work-ups and tagging. These experiences provide students with a unique insight into the realities of marine research while helping to build the knowledge and skills needed to protect our oceans and the incredible species that call them home.

By investing in students and working alongside local communities, Saving the Blue hopes to inspire the next generation of marine scientists and strengthen the future of shark and sawfish conservation in The Bahamas.
